F-Secure's Malware Removal Tools
F-Secure provides a number of virus removal and system fixing tools from its ftp site (this is a new URL). Virus removal tools are used separately from F-Secure Anti-Virus and provide cleaning of a specific infection. Fixing tools perform repair of a system damaged or modified by a specific malicious program. Most of the tools have additional readme files that should be studied before usage.

Find
out what's running on your machine and what may be slowing
it down |

HijackThis
by Merijn Bellekoman, is a respected, free program
that detects and removes hijackers.
|
Download the .exe file and click on it to run the program. There is nothing to install.
This program will scan your computer and create a log file by
selecting "Do a system scan and save a log file."
You need the saved log file to go on to the next step.
When you have the log file saved (be sure you know where you
put it!) enter http://www.hijackthis.de/ into your browser's address bar. This will bring up the "HijackThis
log file analysis" page. Enter your log file location into
the appropriate entry box and click on the "analyze
button."After a short time, the analysis will
appear and you can view your system. If you see something that
needs to be changed, go back to the HijackThis program and locate
the line item that needs fixing. Put a check mark next to the
line item and click on the "fix checked" box.
WARNING: Be sure you want to do this, because
the line item can contain programs or Registry items. There
is no Undo feature.
Note: You can also visit the "hijackthis" forum at www.theeldergeek.com and ask forum members what items running on your machine that
they would recommend that you remove. Other users' logs and problems at http://www.theeldergeek.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php?f29.html)

Check
out this site for anti-spyware feature
comparisons. Given the bewildering array of programs
and features available to users looking for anti-spyware applications,
users may find it difficult to usefully compare anti-spyware
programs and their feature sets. To
remedy that potential confusion, this page presents two Feature
Comparison Tables for the major anti-spyware programs currently
available. http://www.spywarewarrior.com/asw-features.htm
Take a look at this
list of rogue/suspect anti-spyware
applications. "Rogue/Suspect" means that
these products are of unknown, questionable, or dubious value
as anti-spyware protection. http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#products
